Does Your New Android Smart Phone Need VPN?

1

The 2019 Android smartphones are loaded with all types of amazing features. All new models run on either the 8.0 or 9.0 operating system, contain the Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, and impressive processor speeds of 1.4 to 2.96 GHz. Buyers can view their Android on screens that are as large as 6.41 inches and have crystal-clear resolutions. Of course, all Androids come with the latest camera technology and impressively long battery life up to 14 hours.

Regardless of how technologically advanced the new Android smartphones are, however, they still need protection from the Internet.

The question: What is the best cyber protection for Android Smart Phones?

Android Phones Are Not Secure

When someone uses a smartphone to connect to the Internet — especially in public — they often encounter a connection that is not secure. Although Internet providers or engines provide a certain level of Internet Protocol (IP) security, it is rarely enough security to keep hackers, businesses, or government agencies from accessing data on the phone. What type of data can these entities access?

  • Emails
  • Browsing history
  • Photos & media
  • Private files
  • Personal accounts
  • The current IP address or location of the use

Therefore, users are vulnerable and can lose their data or have their identity stolen from anyone in the world. It doesn’t matter how well-built the Android phone is. It is still not secure out of the box. Therefore, users need an added layer of security.

That is where a virtual private network (VPN) comes in.

Virtual Private Networks: The Best Security for Android

A virtual VPN such as Surfshark provides some of the highest levels of security for Android phones.

What is a VPN?

A VPN allows a user to connect to the Internet without being traced by any outside individual or organization. Therefore, all Internet activity is virtually undetectable. Users can send emails, browse the Internet, use a streaming service, or connect from any device (including your Android), and they are entirely protected from potential risks.

A VPN protects phones in two ways:

  • Reroutes Your IP Address
Since a VPN is connected to a server, it can reroute an IP address to any server and disguise a person’s actual location. Most VPNs like Surfshark have hundreds of servers that they can bounce the address to or from. Therefore, it makes it impossible for anyone actually to find the IP address.
  • Creates a Virtual Data Tunnel
A VPN creates a virtual digital ‘tunnel’ for data to travel to and from. Therefore, a user can email, upload or download data from the Internet, or text data to or from a phone without public access. The data is fully protected from the sender to the receiver. This is known as end-to-end protection.

One of the best features of using a VPN is that it protects users when they are in public places with public Wi-Fi that anyone can log onto. A person can join a Wi-Fi in a restaurant, theater, retail store, or anywhere else and be adequately protected by the VPN.

VPN companies also have other features in their VPN service that adds even more protection.

What Are the Best VPNs for Android Users?

There are dozens of companies that provide VPNs for Android Phones. In fact, some companies offer services ONLY for Android phones. Some of the best companies on the market today include:

  • Surfshark
  • NordVPN
  • Cyberghost
  • IPVanish VPN
  • Express VPN
  • Private Internet Access VPN
  • ProtonVPN

Although many of these companies provide a wide range of services and features, it is crucial for a beginner to find out which of these services offer the best products. Users also want to compare prices. It is a good idea to avoid companies that offer low rates, free subscriptions, or lifetime subscriptions. Many of these companies are either not reliable or not trustworthy. In some cases, these companies will sell your identity to third-party companies, or they will shut down as quickly as they started.

The best VPNs charge fair monthly rates, and they have been around for a while. When choosing the right company, search for their reputation. Look for reviews from professional critics and users. These are the best ways to find the best VPNs on the market today.

Features to Look for in VPNs for Android

There are several features that a first-time user should look for. Many of these features include:

  • Numerous servers: Most reputable VPNs have at least 500 servers spread across several countries in Australia, North America, South America, Asia, and Africa.
  • Kill switch: A kill switch allows a user to instantly disconnect from the Internet if they sense a security breach of any type. VPN servers that monitor user activity may also utilize the kill switch if they detect a threat.
  • Activity logs: Most trustworthy VPNs have a no-log policy. That means that the company will not log a user’s online activity or store any data. There is no trace of it.
  • High-speed: Sometimes a VPN will offer lots of features that can slow an Internet connection down.
  • Streaming services: Many users like VPNs because the VPN allows them to use streaming services that are either blocked or otherwise not available in specific geographical locations.
  • Strong encryption: Many of the best VPN providers carry 256-bit AES encryption. This type of encryption keeps unauthorized users from cracking any codes.

The best VPNs in the industry have exceptional customer service. A user should be able to travel anywhere in the world where a VPN has a server and depend on fast, reliable customer service to help them with problems.

Now is the Time to Get a VPN

Anyone who buys an Android smartphone should consider getting a VPN to protect their phone data. It is a small investment that could protect a user from a potential disaster. Without a VPN, a user’s vulnerability is very high when they connect to any Wi-Fi private or public. VPNs are the front-line of cyber defense against some of the most vicious hackers in the world.

  1. VPNs sometimes can even increase browsing speed on public wi-fi, your mentioned Surfshark has an adBlock feature so less ads amounts to less data traffic and faster loading speed. It’s a bit annoying you have to pay extra for safe browsing but if you use your own mobile data you can even save some money in the end, I got Surfshark for 1.99$/MO with a public “whiteshark” coupon, IMHO that’s affordable considering ur paying for security soft.
